Pilsen

Pilsen

Mention of Pilsen most often evokes beer and the famous legend that gave name to all its types more than 170 years ago. However, the city has more to offer, as the historical city centre features plenty of gems reminding of its rich history: the Gothic St Bartholomew‘s Cathedral with the highest church tower in the Czech Republic, Renaissance City Hall, the labyrinth of corridors of the Pilsen Historical Underground, Franciscan Monastery, and the unique Great Synagogue, which is the fourth largest synagogue in the whole wide world.

Menorca

Menorca

Menorca (or Minorca) was named after the Spanish word 'menor', meaning smaller, so that the name already reveals that Menorca is indeed smaller than its neighboring islands. As so, the majority of holidaymakers flock to the more publicity-prone islands of Mallorca and Ibiza, while Menorca attracts those who want the best of the Balearics without losing themselves in the crowd. The stunning coves with white sand beaches are a draw by themselves but the historic remains of the British occupation, the countryside, and the tranquility of this quieter isle all make for its charm that attracts visitors year by year, and always again.

Agia Anna Church
Ayia Napa – Protaras, Cyprus

Agia Anna Church

This 13th century Byzantine chapel in the center of Paralimni, built using local limestone, is dedicated to Mother Mary but it is referred to as ‘Agia Anna’, a name that was given to it when it was restored. The original chapel was decorated with frescoes, which were tragically destroyed and only some remnants betray their previous existence. The chapel now serves as an ecclesiastical museum where icons of the 16th and 19th centuries, holy relics and old books are exhibited.
