Bab al-Bhar, the monumental gateway to the Medina of Tunis, stands as a portal between eras. Once part of the old city’s defensive walls, its arch now opens onto a lively plaza where daily life unfolds. Here, children play by fountains, artisans sell traditional textiles, and tea houses hum with conversation. Beyond lies the Medina, Tunisia’s historic heart. Its narrow streets branch into specialised souqs, each dedicated to specific crafts: copper smiths hammering wares, perfumers blending oils and leather workers stitching goods. At its centre rises Al-Zaytuna Mosque, the city’s oldest and most revered site. Stalls between these hubs offer ceramics, textiles, and other handcrafted treasures. Visit mid-week to navigate comfortably. On Saturdays, the crowds can become overwhelming, and on Sundays many shops stay closed.

In addition to the Rotonda, this is one of the two most characteristic monuments in town. The Galerius arch is situated close to the eastern city wall, a short distance from the Kassandreotiki gate. The 4th-century AD Roman emperor Galerius commissioned both structures to show off his power. A road used to run through the arch, past the Rotunda and on to the palace to the southwest. The arch is composed of a masonry core faced with marble sculptural panels celebrating a victory over the seventh emperor in the Sassanid Persian Empire. About two-thirds of the arch is preserved. Colloquially, the monument in known as Kamara, that's Greek for 'arch'.

The New Archaeological Museum of Patras presents the region's rich history from prehistory to the Roman era. Its innovative design allows you to approach exhibits directly, without barriers. The permanent collection is organised into three immersive themes: Private Life, featuring remarkable Roman mosaics and reconstructed villas; Public Life, detailing administration and commerce; and the Necropolis, showcasing burial customs with reconstructed tombs. This experiential approach makes the ancient past vividly accessible, establishing the museum as a significant cultural destination.

Archery is Bhutan's national sport and most beloved traditional pastime. Festivals and tournaments can be found all around the country on most weekends, showcasing the great skill of the participants and the cheerful and easygoing nature of the Bhutanese people.
