Once a prayer hall, the Ribat Museum showcases a varied collection of traditional fabrics and objects such as coins, jewellery and pottery that will transport visitors back to a time when Islamic art was highly coveted the world over. It also displays an astrolabe (a device which measures the distance between stars) dating all the way back to the year 927, right at the time when pivotal discoveries in astronomy and mathematics were taking place. The museum is accessible from the south wing of the Ribat.

Fjätervålen mountain is where both beginners and advanced skiers find their delight. The vastness of the skiing area relative to the number of guests means it never feels crowded, and the slopes don't get overused. Perfect for smooth carving, but also a favourite spot for many alpine clubs for training and competitions. The slopes meet international FIS norms for slalom, giant slalom, and women's super-G. The fact that all slopes converge in one place is a definite advantage. Everyone can ski their favourite slope, but it's always easy to find each other again at the foot of the mountain.

Puerto Escondido Beach is located inside a cosy and tranquil cove in the Manuel Antonio National Park. The 650-metre-long cove offers a spectacular landscape, thanks to the biodiversity of the flora and fauna, both terrestrial and marine, that live here. You'll see plenty of animals peaking out of the lush forest.

Security is of concern at present and trips to the Khyber Pass are best left for a better time (check official safety advice at your planned time of travel), but do seize the opportunity when the opportunity comes. The pass has long been a gateway to South Asia (part of the ancient Silk Route), travelled by merchants, explorers and conquerors, the likes of Alexander the Great and Mughals, a channel that now connects Pakistan to the troubled Afghan territories via Torkham. Michni Checkpoint is as far as most visitors can count on getting.
