The guide was updated:As with most of western North Carolina, Avery County presents a continental climate characterized by high percentage of humidity, which makes the perceived temperature quite cold during the winter and specially hot from June to August. The weeks spanning January to March are definitely the perfect period for winter sport lovers, while the period from May to September would be perfect for open air activities like hiking, trekking or fishing. Summer is also the part of the year when the majority of folk festivals take place, like the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games. Don't underestimate the beauty of autumn in High Country, and the spectacular landscapes and colors you can admire on the slopes of Blue Ridge Mountains.
