The port's location could not be better, as it is only a short ten-minute walk to downtown Basseterre or "The Circus" as the locals call it. There is a duty-free shopping area where passengers can buy different goods tax-free. However, in order to benefit from this duty-free rates, local vendors might ask for a proof of non-residence such as a cruise ship card, a foreign driver's license, or a passport.
