The Beitou area of Taipei is renowned for its high concentration of thermal spa centres. There are establishments to fit any budget, from the low-priced open-air Public Hot Spring (modest swimwear required) to private hotels and resorts uphill, all offering hot spring baths at various price points. One option most resorts offer is renting a private room with a large bath that can be filled with hot spring water. The Spring City Resort in Beitou is a great mid-range option. A session here includes access to about a dozen thermal pools of varying water temperature (from seemingly boiling-hot to rather chilly), plus robe, towel, and slipper rental. They even offer a free shuttle bus to the metro station. For a luxurious spa treatment, look into the offerings of Hotel Regent Taipei, for example. Wellspring Spa offers a wide range of relaxing treatments including massages, body wraps, skin polishing and facials. Take the elevator to the top floor and unwind at this urban sanctuary.

After its opening in 1898, the Ferry Building became the transportation focal point. At its peak, as many as 50,000 people a day commuted by ferry. An elegant two-story public area with repeating interior arches and overhead skylights, the Ferry Building is a great place to be whether you're looking to dine, shop for fresh and local produce, or just look around. You'll find lots of delicious seafood restaurants along the back of the building where you can overlook the harbor. Don't miss Hog Island Oysters and Gott's Roadside. The farmers market takes place every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 10am to 2pm. As a city committed to environmental sustainability, every vendor here has adopted a sustainable mission, and therefore, sells mostly organic products. Speaking of eco-friendly practices, the Ferry Building has been working closely with the transit authority to support the revitalization of the waterfront and the wildlife that resides in the bay.

Take a cable car ride in a glass bottom gondola all the way up to the top of the mountain from Taipei Zoo Station to Maokong Station, where you can enjoy stunning views of the city. At the top you will find food stands, tea shops and some paths for hiking. The ride takes about 20 minutes.

Vibrant, colourful, casual and young at heart, Nørrebro is a magic area of Copenhagen. Here you'll find trendy bars and fashionable designer shops next door to dodgy dive bars and cheap kebab places. If you're into small design shops head for Elmegade or Jægersborggade, and if you like antiques Ravnsborggade is the place for you to head to. At Sankt Hans Torv and the streets around it, you have plenty of choices for dinner and drinks.
