Visit Kilohana Plantation today and travel back in time. Capturing 1930s Kauai, the plantation is one of Kauai's treasures. In 1935, Gaylord Parke Wilcox decided to build his dream home with his wife, Ethel. The house featured Tudor-style architecture and became known as Kilohana. The 16,000 square foot mansion was the center of a 26,000-acre sugar field, serving as the family home for many generations.

Ho'opulapula Haraguchi Rice Mill has been in the Haraguchi Family for six generations. It offers weekly public tours of both the rice mill and taro fields, which explore the rich history of the farm and the family running it.

A lot of money has been invested in this building over the centuries, and it shows! The stately stepped gable from the old corn store has been watching over the town since the 13th century. The corn store—also known as ’t spijker—has been redefined. It’s come a long way from those old sacks of grain. Of course you don’t have to push the boat out quite that far. You can also try a cosy brasserie on the Graslei or Korenlei. Or why not just buy finger food and sit down on the quayside! Because sometimes, appreciating the little things is the most romantic.
