Get a taste of local life at the city's most popular gathering venue, and take a stroll along the narrow alleyways lined with myriad cafés and restaurants. The fountain in the middle of the square was designed by Friedrich Joachim Stengel, and together with Ludwig's Church and the Castle, it forms what is called the Stengel triangle. You'll also find Fröschengasse here, formerly a workers' district with Baroque-style houses.

With exhibits ranging from model boats to fish skeletons and sixteen aquariums, this is a superb museum about all things nautical. Look out for the two-headed sardine and the famous 60-ton whale skeleton. If after your visit you get hungry, there's a on-site restaurant with bay views.

This 14th-century church, known as Santuario della Madonna della Misericordia in Italian, is renowned for the portrait of Madonna della Misericordia, painted by the artist Giuseppe Soleri in the 18th–19th century. Located near the Augustus Arch, this sanctuary was originally constructed by Clarisse nuns. Throughout its history, this church has been a site of continuous pilgrimages and a place of profound prayer. It is said that the miraculous image of Madonna della Misericordia moved its eyes in 1850, adding to its mystique. As a result, the 12th of every month holds special significance as a day to commemorate this miraculous event.

This neoclassical theatre looks like it's frozen in time: the majestic golden décor and the red suede curtains will probably throw you back to the 18th century when it was built for Charles III, Duke of Bourbon. After several restorations, it is still open today and hosts great shows such as Swan Lake.
