Pomorie, located 22 kilometres from Burgas, is a charming coastal town known for its therapeutic mud and mineral waters. Key attractions include the Salt Museum, where you can learn about traditional salt production, and the Thracian Beehive Tomb — a unique ancient mausoleum from 2nd–3rd century AD. The town also features the serene Saint George Monastery, the picturesque Lake Pomorie, and an aqua park for some family fun. With its rich history, archaeological sites, and relaxing spa options, Pomorie makes for a rewarding day trip.

In 620 AD, in the company of an angel, the prophet Mohamad took a night journey to Heaven: called Mi'raj, this episode is a key point in the Islamic tradition. Located on top of the Noble Sanctuary upland, the Dome protects the rock where this journey started. On the same rock, thousands of years before, the biblical patriarch Abraham had allegedly tried to sacrifice his son Isaac, before God told him to stop. The Dome is, according to some, the oldest existing Islamic building, and a holy place of immense importance. Byzantine artisans built it between 687 and 691, and today its golden top stands out against the cityscape. Non-Muslim visitors cannot enter the Dome, but its elegant architecture is definitely worth taking a look at.

If you happen to stroll through the many alleys in town, you might stumble upon the Odeon. Only a few steps away from the main road, this Roman theatre was discovered in 1892 underneath buildings constructed upon it over the years. Its remains stand out from the rest of the city, a testament to the long gone Ancient Roman Era.

Bansuiso is a large villa, built in the style of a 19th century Gothic French château. The Earl Sadakoto Hisamatsu, a descendant of the Matsuyama clan, built it in 1922 as a second home. Having lived in France, Hisamatsu wanted to impress with Western style, and he hired architect Shichirō Giko to achieve it. The villa was a social mecca for the elite of that time, including the Imperial family. Today, exhibitions of the Museum of Art Ehime and concerts are held here.
