The Burrell Collection, held by many to be one of the world's finest private art collections, was founded in 1983 and donated by industrialist Sir William Burrell to the City of Glasgow. It includes everything from Chinese porcelain to paintings by Renoir and Cézanne. Various happenings occur throughout the year.

One of Porto Santo’s best-known viewpoints, Miradouro da Portela, offers sweeping views to the north and south. From here, you can take in the entire southern half of the island, including the 9 km-long beach, and see how the island’s low peaks give it a surprisingly open, almost barren feel. On a clear day, Madeira even appears in the distance. A short walk will bring you to the island’s three remaining traditional windmills. Painted white and red with sturdy stone bases, they’re no longer in use but are wonderfully preserved and make a great spot for photos, framed by both the ocean and the inland hills. Portela gets especially magical at sunrise or sunset, when the light casts the bay in golden hues. It’s also easy to combine this stop with nearby attractions like Porto dos Frades natural pools or the Terra Chã hike.

Whether it's a high climb or an incredible stroll across the magical landscapes of Luang Prabang, it's the only way to admire the countryside close-up, to discover its secret hideaways and to immerse yourself in a bucolic atmosphere. One of the most famous tours is the Longhut trail which includes a homestay at the Khum village and ends with a 1.5- to 2-hour trek through the rice fields and forest until the final destination, Tad Sae waterfalls. Dive deep into the emerald waters of Tat Sae waterfalls only 18 km southeast of Luang Prabang. Unlike Kuang Si waterfalls, the spot is less famous among tourists, which makes it less crowded and a favourite with locals. Note that locals bathe fully clothed, sometimes even in jeans. To avoid getting stares and blend in better, women are recommended to bring a sarong and men a shirt to cover up, as going around in a bikini is not culturally accepted. Tat Sae waterfalls offer outdoor activities such as zip-lining and kayaking. The waterfalls are at their best during the rainy season (June to September).
