Schloss Benrath (Benrath Palace) was built as a pleasure and hunting palace for the Elector Carl Theodor. Today, the ensemble in its artistic unity of buildings, interior and gardens, 60 hectares in all, is considered one of Europe’s rare complete works of art of the late baroque period. The main palace building (corps de logis), with its furniture, porcelain, paintings, etc., gives an impression of court life in the second half of the 18th century. The eastern wing houses the “Museum für Europäische Gartenkunst” (Museum of European Garden Art) and the western wing the “Museum für Naturkunde” (Museum of Natural Sciences).

The Old Town is a vibrant quarter based on its own historic identity. It has a mix of building design dating to the 12th century, Victorian architecture, and contemporary design. The Old Town is clearly bordered on three sides by one of the longest surviving stretches of medieval town walls in the country.

For a stunning 360-degree view of Gulangyu and the surrounding city, climb to the top of Riguang Mountain, where a lookout tower offers incredible vistas. It's a peaceful spot, especially in the late afternoon, although it can get quite crowded at times.

This track is one of the more challenging ones, so make sure to be prepared with suitable footwear, enough water, food and stamina for the day. The hike itself may take up to 4 hours in addition to the journey from Wellington to the starting point, which you can cover by car or train (KPL) and which will take you around an hour. Stunning views and a fresh ocean breeze will accompany you during this amazing walk.
