Val d’Orcia conjures up everything you picture when you think of Tuscany—rolling hills, cypress-lined roads, and quiet hill towns. It’s a protected UNESCO site, partly because of the landscape, partly because of how little it’s changed over the centuries. Pienza is the standout—it was designed as the 'ideal city' during the Renaissance and still feels unusually well put together. The Wren Building, on the campus of William & Mary, is the oldest college building in the U.S. and one of Williamsburg’s most historic sites. Built between 1695 and 1700, it has survived fires, restorations, and centuries of history. Visitors can step inside to see colonial-era architecture, hear stories about the college’s past, and get a feel for early American education. The Lace Market is named after the booming lace trade that Nottingham was famous for in the 18th century. This hip and happening part of town is home to some of the city’s best restaurants, bars and shops. The cobbled streets and stunning architecture also make it arguably the most attractive area of Nottingham.

The Bastide Saint Louis is the heart of Carcasonne, built in 1260, to a checkerboard layout around the Place Carnot and its colourful market. Wandering in rich southern French charm, you will see beautiful religious buildings like Church Saint Vincent, private mansions as well as restful parks and gardens. Among top attractions is the Gothic-styled Saint-Michel Cathedral, which features a wealth of objects of worship and art work.
