The Coachella Valley National Wildlife Refuge spans over 20,000 acres of striking desert terrain and rare wildlife. This unique habitat is home to wonders like the endangered Coachella Valley fringe-toed lizard, perfectly adapted to its sandy, shifting environment. At Thousand Palm Oasis—nourished by the San Andreas Fault—towering fan palms create a surprising, shaded escape that feels like another world within the desert. Scenic trails weave through these fascinating landscapes, inviting visitors to discover one of California’s most distinctive desert ecosystems.

Right next to the headquarters of the European Southern Observatory in Garching, the ESO Supernova Planetarium is an interactive learning centre for all age groups. The highlight is the ultra-modern planetarium with its 360-degree dome. A total of ten different guided tours are offered in German and English, on which visitors can find out more about science and the nature of the universe.

At the BELvue Museum, visitors discover the major historical periods of our country by means of numerous historical documents.

The Parthenon and the temple of Athena, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the major attraction of Athens. The Erechtheion displays the statues of the female Caryatids, though the original statues have been replaced by copies because of air pollution; the originals are in the new Museum. On the southern slopes of the Acropolis lies the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, a Roman theatre with room for as many as 5,000 spectators. It is used during the annual Athens Festival for world-class ballet and music performances. The Theatre of Dionysus lies beside Herodes Atticus, and almost all the tragedies and comedies of Ancient Greece were written for this theatre.
