The name translates as "little Curaçao" and refers to a small, uninhabited island around 25 kilometres from Curaçao. The Botanical Garden and Museum was established in 1544 as the first university botanical garden in Europe. The garden is divided into sections that contain the botanical school, gardens, ponds, greenhouses and various buildings. Major collections include herb gardens and arboreta, as well as the old botany institute of late 16th century, with a façade ornamented with sea-shells.

Located in the lively Lombok district, Molen de Ster is a historic mill commissioned by the Van der Starren family. It stands as the sole remaining structure from a series of sawmills along the Leidsche Vaart. After an extensive restoration in the 1990s, the mill houses a café, and has a small animal park nearby. Guided tours in English provide insight into the mill's history.
