After being used as a private residence of an heir of the throne, the Herrenhausen Palace Museum reopened in 2013 and, since then, invites visitors to entertainingly explore the facets of the wide-ranging palace and the garden world in Herrenhausen. Displaying ten manorial chambers with precious furniture, sculptures and china as well as oil paintings and portraits, this exhibition will give you an insight into the wealthy way of life back in the day.

Constructed during a tumultuous period when colonial powers were vying for control of what was then known as British Honduras, St. John's Cathedral was built utilizing slave labor over a duration of eight years. Despite its unassuming exterior, this small Anglican church holds a unique distinction as the sole location outside of England where British monarchs were crowned. Four Indian Miskito tribe kings, who resided along the Mosquito coast, were bestowed with elaborate British ceremonial regalia that rivaled even the grandeur of London's royal ceremonies. This effort by the British was aimed at cultivating friendly relations with the tribe and safeguarding their power, land, and wealth from their Spanish rivals.

Stroll around this town full of character, cobbled streets and piazzas, and enjoy the decorous passeggiata along the main street, Via Garibaldi. There are also some good restaurants around the squares and pleasant bars in which to linger over a cool drink. The Diocesano Museum is located in the heart of town and has some fascinating exhibits, including two silver candlesticks and a crucifix gifted by Lord Horatio Nelson.

Under the shelter of lush rainforest, the archeological site of Kohunlich is an outstanding example of Maya architecture. Palaces, citadels, temples, such as the top attraction Temple of the Masks, and other elaborate structures are scattered over an area of more than 20 acres, with most landmarks dating back to as early as 250 to 600 AD. Chetumal is a common starting point to visit Kohunlich, but tours are available at the Costa Maya Cruise Port as well.
