Slave Lodge Museum it the second oldest building in Cape Town and now houses a grimly fascinating exhibition that explores the history of slavery in South Africa. The constantly changing exhibitions aim to raise awareness about human rights in the country and around the world.

The House of Slaves is a museum and memorial to the Atlantic slave trade on Gorée Island. The Door of No Return memorialises the final exit point of the slaves from Africa. Though the exact number of slaves who actually departed from here is debated, a visit is an important and solemn experience.

Explore ancient lush green rainforests on the Cubo de la Galga hiking route. Beginning on the LP-1 highway in the east of the island, the starting point is easy to find. The route is 12 kilometres long and suitable for all experience levels. However, be warned that parts of this verdant, subtropical jungle are especially steep and slippery. Getterön is a nature reserve that encompasses an area of 3.5 square kilometres, including parts of the Getterön peninsula. It's mainly popular due to its exceptional bird watching opportunities, providing hiding spots and observation positions that allow visitors to get up close to the birds without disturbing them. During spring and autumn, large numbers of species regularly breed or nest here. In addition to the permanent bird residents in Getterön, a large number of temporary guests flock to the area, contributing to a remarkable total of 336 recorded species in the region.
