The “Grand House” of El Castell de Guadalest or “Casa Orduña” was built after the great earthquake of 1644, which devastated the region and demolished the buttress of the castle. It was built by the Orduñas, a family of Basque lineage. They came to the kingdom of Valencia with the Infante Fortuna de Navarra; they later went into the service of the Cardonas, admirals of Aragón. D. Sancho de Cardona received the title of Marques of Guadalest in 1543. As the family enjoyed the complete confidence of the marqueses, they were sent to Guadalest and served as guardians of the fortress and governors of the estate for almost three hundred years.

This functioning monastery isn't much of a developed tourist attraction, but visitors are welcomed by an English-speaking guard and ushered inside the early 14th century Serbian Orthodox monastery (built in place of an even more ancient 6th century basilica). There is a small gift shop selling ecclesiastic paraphernalia and souvenirs.

The city's most staggering discovery is the brutalist National Library building, a structure so bizarre and seemingly out of place that many are left unsure as to what to make of it. It still is a perfectly functional library, so do drop in to get a good look at what's inside – you might just chance upon an English-language exhibition.

Didcot Railway Centre was formerly known as the Great Western Railway. It has been the stabling point of engine-shed and locomotive in Didcot. Today, the place is a comprehensive railway museum and preservation engineering site. It is a recreation of Brunel's broad gauge railway and a home to unique collections of Great Western Railway steam engines, coaches, building, wagons, and small relics; and a recreation of Brunel's broad gauge railway. Didcot Railway Centre is open during Saturdays and Sundays throughout the year and daily during peak season and school holiday.
