Vila Baleira, Porto Santo’s main town, may be small in size, but it makes up for it with charm and character, and you can easily explore the historic centre in about an hour or so. Start near the old pier, a favourite spot for locals, and take in views of Porto Santo Beach and the hills in the distance. From there, wander through the town square and past buildings with traditional Madeiran architecture. Around the square, you’ll find several of Vila Baleira’s key sights, including the Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Piedade, the town’s main church, the town hall, and the Casa Colombo Museum. The latter is well worth a visit if you’re interested in learning more about the island’s maritime past. Cafés and restaurants nearby offer a chance to sit back and watch the world go by.

Kampa Park is a beautiful park and the best tranquil retreat if you want some peace and quiet. Enjoy your time together and do not forget to bring some bread for the swans who make frequent appearances around Kampa island.

The Millennium Cross was built as a memorial for 2.000 years of Christianity in North Macedonia . It is a great walk up here that will take you about 2.5 h but of course you can choose to take the bus, a taxi or even the cable car. The view from here is magnificent.

A must-see landmark, the Monument to the Soviet Army is a nostalgic reminder of socialist times. It shows a brave soldier surrounded by hard-working members of the proletariat looking ahead to the bright future that awaits. Located at the eastern entrance to Borisova Gradina park. During the summer months, Sundays take on a special rhythm as people gather next to this monument with a speaker to dance salsa and bachata. Anyone passing by is welcome to join in.
