Astrid Lindgren's childhood home is the farm in Näs. The old vicarage now houses a Knowledge Centre and a museum. In the extensive exhibition, 'The Whole World's Astrid Lindgren', you can follow the story of Astrid Lindgren from her childhood at Näs to becoming a world-renowned author.

In 620 AD, in the company of an angel, the prophet Mohamad took a night journey to Heaven: called Mi'raj, this episode is a key point in the Islamic tradition. Located on top of the Noble Sanctuary upland, the Dome protects the rock where this journey started. On the same rock, thousands of years before, the biblical patriarch Abraham had allegedly tried to sacrifice his son Isaac, before God told him to stop. The Dome is, according to some, the oldest existing Islamic building, and a holy place of immense importance. Byzantine artisans built it between 687 and 691, and today its golden top stands out against the cityscape. Non-Muslim visitors cannot enter the Dome, but its elegant architecture is definitely worth taking a look at.

At Filmbyn (Film Village), you can experience scenes from classical children’s films, e.g. Emil in Lönneberga, the Bullerby Children, and Pippi Longstocking. Step into the world of film via a magical exhibition, created in the spirit of Astrid Lindgren. You’ll see classical film clips, original props, and sing along with movie music. While you’re there, you might like to visit its café, shop and one or other of the 12 filming locations nearby, such as Katthult and Bullerby.

In the days of the tsars, the people who enjoyed themselves in the Riviera’s casinos until late on Saturday night, were not exactly short of money. They went here, to church though, on Sundays. After the collapse of communism in Eastern Europe, things are much as they were in the old days, but thick wads of dollars now rain down on the Riviera — and the beautifully restored cathedral.
