In the splendid surroundings of Säfsen, you can embark on short and easy family outings, as well as more demanding long hikes. The journey to the many delightful nature spots is just as rewarding as the destinations themselves. For those seeking a bit more of a challenge, there's also organized wilderness hiking in hilly terrain. For these adventures, sturdy rubber boots are essential, as the trail lacks defined paths. Oudayas Kasbah near Rabat's nedina has kept its old cannons placed on a bastion. Its massive gate is entirely carved, while its blue and white walls give it a Mediterranean atmosphere. Cobbled streets lead to the El Atiqa Mosque, the oldest in the city, and on to the old semaphore platform. The view from here, or the terrace of the neighbouring Café Maure, is splendid: Rabat, nearby Salé and Bouregreg river meeting the ocean. The Oudayas Palace, further on up, which now houses the National Museum, has conserved its markedly simple and balanced original decor. The Andalusian Gardens below are a heaven of peace full of fruit trees, rose-laurels and cascades of bougainvilleas.

Cleland Wildlife Park has been a popular tourist attraction since 1967, and it is a Conservation Park where you can interact with Australian wildlife. Here, you can cuddle with a koala bear or hand-feed kangaroos and wallabies while also seeing the famous waterfall Gully-Mount.

Built in 1935 by famous local architect Ramos de Azevedo for one of his daughters, Casa das Rosas, or ”House of Roses” is a French-style mansion with gardens inspired by the Palace of Versailles. The building was home to the same family until 1986 when it was made a municipal landmark. Since 2004, it has been a museum dedicated to poetry, literature, culture and the preservation of the bibliographic collection of the poet Haroldo de Campos.
