Concord’s story begins with a spirited disagreement between German and Scots-Irish settlers over the location of Cabarrus County’s seat. Following the area’s settlement in the 1750s, tensions ran high, but by 1796, the two sides reached a compromise. The result was the founding of “Concord,” aptly named to symbolize their newfound harmony. The city took root on a 26-acre site and has flourished ever since.
Today, much of Concord’s charm lies in its Historic Downtown, where historic architecture meets modern boutiques, restaurants, and cultural attractions.
