One of the country's most recognisable religious landmarks, the National Memorial Chhorten's golden spires and bells attract Thimphu devouts and fascinated visitors alike. This Buddhist shrine and stupa (a mound or structure used as a place of meditation) was built in 1974 to honour Bhutan's third king, or Druk.

The true "ringing in" of Independence Day in the Twin Cities, the Bloomington Summer Fete occurs every year on July 3 at Normandale Lake Park. A carnival, two entertainment stages with musical performances, and a fireworks display provide fun for the whole family.
