Chania - Do & See
Chania has many wonderful things to offer you on your holiday. Go on a glass-bottomed boat cruise and enjoy the wonderful sea life. If this is not thrilling enough go to Limnoupolis Water Park and feel the adrenaline rush on the waterslides. Try scuba diving or just hanging out on the beach all day. Either way you will return back home well rested.
The calm ruins of the Venetian fort have lovely sea views. Its fascinating Naval Museum (next door) recalls Chania’s maritime tradition. This is also where the Greek flag first was raised.
Limnoupolis Water Park
This is the kids’ choice with waterslides, pools and a lazy river. And for grown-ups there is a jacuzzi and pool bar. Shops and eateries add to the attractions.
This famous 16 km hike down a spectacular mountain gorge reaches the south coast. You will need sturdy shoes, water and a hat! A good idea is to sleep one night nearby and take the bus back to Chania the next day.
Glass-bottomed boats cross in crystal waters to nearby St Theodore Island. Others sail to idyllic Stavros beach on Akrotiri Peninsula. The prices vary so do not hesitate to walk around to compare between the different companies.
Blue Adventures Diving
There are at least two scuba diving centers in Chania - Blue Adventures Diving and Omega Divers. They are both certified and has good reputation in the scuba business.
Going scuba diving will let you peek into a new world of seldom seen creatures and will let you be a part of another element for some time.
Botanical Park & Gardens of Crete
The Botanical Park & Gardens of Crete welcomes you to 20 hectares of herbs, medicinal, ornamental plants and fruit trees from around the world. The nature and the colours is a wonderful experience for the whole family and worth a visit.
Maritime Museum of Crete
Maritime Museum of Crete is a great place to spend a couple of hours and get to know Greece a bit better. On the first floor you will find an interesting movie about the history of Crete. The view over the harbour and lighthouse from here is amazing.
Chania Archaeological Museum
The perminant exhibition at Chania Archaeological Museum tells the story of Chanias cultural history in images. the two main parts of the exhibition describes the eastern part and the Bronze Age. The other part describes the western part and the Iron Age.
Folklore Museum of Chania
Folklore Museum of Chania is a small but very interesting museum and will not take you more than 30 min to visit. Here you can learn a lot about the old harbour and how it came about. If you like art, the owner has an interesting art collection for you to see and maybe purchase something small.
Museum of Typography
Museum of Typography shows you the development of typography from the Gutenberg era until today. You will see different tools, objects, machines and prints which have been used throughout the development.
Manousakis Winery is a beautiful and cosy little farm to spend a day. Get a cheese platter, taste some flavourful, fruity wine and simply relax in this lovely environment. The staff here is very friendly and you can buy the wine in the little shop.
