The red sandstone battlements of Inverness Castle, built during the 1830’s, dominate the town and the River Ness. The Castle is the backdrop for the Castle Garrison Encounter, a re-enactment of life as an 18th century ‘redcoat’ soldier.

With one kilometer of soft, warm sand, clear, tranquil water, and idyllic coconut palms lining the whole area, Les Salines is one of the most popular beaches in Martinique. Families tend to crowd it a bit on weekends, but during the week it tends to be less hectic.

What can be seen today of this Renaissance-style palace in the area of Saluzzo dates back to the 16th century, but the location has been a seat of nobility since the Middle Ages (remnants of the original buildings can still be seen in the basement and some aspects of the facade).

This excavation rivals the famous sites of Pompeii. Once home to around 400,000 residents, ancient Ephesus was built around the temple of Artemis — another marvel among the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The ruins we see today primarily hail from the Roman era. The remnants of the Temple of Artemis stand outside the main ruin area, while the hill above is graced with the cathedral of Saint John, said to be the final resting place of the evangelist. Legend holds that Saint John lived in Ephesus alongside the Virgin Mary.
