Christmas Island is one of the world's truly spectacular tropical seabird rookeries. It's not just the number and variety of seabirds or their magnificent splendour that make the island so remarkable, but also their sheer visibility. Around 80,000 seabirds nest here annually, with 23 breeding or resident species. Birds can be seen and heard everywhere on the island, at just about any time of the day. With just a little effort, birdwatchers can easily tick off a full list of residents in a busy week or a more relaxed fortnight. However, the elusive Christmas Island hawk owl keeps many coming back. More than 100 vagrant and migratory bird species have been recorded here, including eight breeding seabird species and one subspecies. The most numerous is the wide-ranging red-footed booby, which nests in colonies in trees in many parts of the coastal shore terraces. You may see the endangered Christmas Island frigatebird soaring above Settlement — it's the world's rarest frigatebird and nests only on the island. The golden form of the white-tailed tropic bird is an endemic subspecies unique to Christmas Island. Known locally as the golden bosun bird, this stunning bird is graceful in flight and has been adopted as the island's fauna emblem.

Constructed on the site of a former mosque from the Islamic city, this church dates back to between 1402 and 1417, according to the oldest documented evidence. Featuring a single nave design and side chapels nestled between buttresses, the original Gothic structure has undergone significant modifications due to restorations and extensions carried out between the 16th and 18th centuries. Notable elements within the church include a Renaissance presbyter, shaped like a triumphal arch, and the chapel dedicated to the Holy Family (1765-1766), which showcases the artistic influence of sculptor Francisco Salzillo. The main entrance of the church, adorned with the shield of the Catholic Monarchs at its peak, is in the Isabelline Gothic style. In contrast, the adjoining communion chapel exhibits a more Baroque aesthetic, featuring an entrance constructed between 1726 and 1735.

Just a ten-minute walk from the Malmö Central Station, the Western Harbour (Västra Hamnen) is one of the most sustainable districts in Malmö, with amazing architecture and a view over the Öresund Bridge. Here, you also find the spectacular 190-metre-high Turning Torso and Stapelbäddsparken, which attracts skateboarders from all over the world. The district offers beautiful walks, bathing facilities, restaurants and cafés, plus lush grass for picnics when the weather allows it. You will also find the Dockan Marina here, with plenty of berths and facilities for guest boats.

The Linnaeus Garden is a lush oasis with a beautiful orangery, right in the centre of Uppsala, where you can find over 1,000 species arranged according to Linnaeus’ ‘Systema Naturæ’. Wander amongst the plants and enjoy the profusion of flowers whilst relaxing with a coffee or some lunch in the restaurant and café. The garden is also home to Linnaeus’ residence, which now features a museum where you can learn more about the so-called King of Flowers and the period in which he lived. The Garden and Professor’s Residence (Linnaeus Museum) is open from May through September.
