Pic Saint-Loup is the highest observation point in the Montpellier area and a perfect place to go for a rewarding hike. As you ascend, the true reward unveils at the summit, where lush valleys stretch out below, offering breathtaking panoramic views.

Make sure to be at the Old Town Square, Stary Rynek, at 1.13pm or 9.13pm, to see the moving sculpture of Master Twardowski appear from one of the windows. A character from the old folklore, this wizard puts on an amusing show for about two minutes: he bows, waves and then disappears back behind the window.

The most interesting aspect of this museum is the building itself - a mosque with the only intact minaret in the Aegean Islands. The museum contains a clutter of Hellenistic statuary, Roman slabs and a collection of Turkish, Jewish and Armenian tombstones that hint at the island’s multi-ethnic past.

Not to be mistaken with the larger lake of the same name on the River Shannon, Lough Derg in Co. Donegal is a renowned place of pilgrimage. A traditional three-day pilgrimage takes place each August, but the Lough is open to visitors (including anglers!) year-round. The Lough is composed of over 30 islands and inlets, the most famous of which is Station Island - it is said that when St. Patrick traversed Ireland converting kings to Christianity, Jesus appeared to him here and revealed the entrance to Purgatory! The Lough's name comes from the Irish word "dearg" (red) as a local legend holds that a local mortal once called the magic powers of the lake to transform a worm into a vicious cow. Once defeated, the red blood of the cow changed the colour of the rocks (which are in fact sandstone) to red.
