The second biggest castle in Britain (after Windsor), it was built in the late 13th century to secure the area against Welsh attacks from the north. The castle is one of the greatest examples of medieval military architecture displaying an enormous array of defensive structures such as high towers, large moats and barbicans. It is located 15 minutes by train from Cardiff.

These unique hollows, caves, and pillars are a distinctive feature adorning the dolerite slopes throughout Billingen. Jättadalen, a gorge sculpted by a meandering stream, is embraced by steep mountain walls. Stand atop the precipitous cliffs of Jättadalen, and you'll be treated to a breathtaking panorama of Vallebygden, stretching all the way to the majestic Kinnekulle. - Hiking in Valle In the area, there are a lot of walking tracks that take you around and in between the many small lakes. The extraordinary rock formations and caves of Al-Qara are one of the most prominent landmarks in the Al Ahsa region and are well worth a dedicated day trip. Exploring the maze-like caves is a pleasant experience year-round; the caves remain cool during the summer and warm in the winter. The mountaintop offers unobstructed views of the lush palm oasis below. According to local legend, these caves are associated with the story of Judas Iscariot, who is said to have ended his life here after the biblical betrayal.
