The first stone blocks to the church foundation walls were broken in 1875 in Kenttärova. The same year F. R. Ekberg completed the drawings of the architect. The Royal Majesty, however, decided in 1877, that the church and schoolhouse would be built in the same area: Nivankorvanmaa. A significant restoration occurred in 1941, addressing structural and interior changes, and the church was reconsecrated in 1942. The restoration included new pews, removal of the heating stove, and electric lighting.

El Retiro, an iconic park in Madrid, was once reserved exclusively for Spanish royalty, but it became accessible to the public in the late 19th century. Covering 350 acres, it is one of the largest parks in the city and is often referred to as 'the lungs of Madrid' due to its vast green spaces. It's a popular spot for leisure, sports, and outdoor activities, with wide avenues and flat terrain perfect for running, cycling, and skating. You can also rent rowboats to paddle around the pond or enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride. The park is home to several architectural and historical features, including the Velázquez Palace and the Crystal Palace, as well as remarkable sculptures and fountains, such as the statue of the Fallen Angel, the only sculpture in the world to represent the devil, Lucifer. The park also boasts a Puppet Theatre, which offers a unique program every weekend and is one of a kind in Europe.

Organised tours take visitors to the Giant Tortoise Farm on Curieuse Island (tours depart from Praslin and other islands). Upon seeing the Aldabra, visitors are free to explore the island further, and get the chance to see coco de mer palm trees, indigenous black parrot, the breeding ground for green sea turtles, and even more varied flora and fauna.

Founded in the 1820s, the town developed as a river port in the following decade and became an important inland trading post. Morpeth's days as a river port ended around 1890, but the town's comparative isolation meant that its historic shopfronts, wharves and even the hitching posts along the main street have survived intact, hence its National Trust classification today. This is a living museum of Australia's past, complemented by modern dining options, boutique gift shops and specialty craft stores.
