In the heart of Miraflores lie the remains of a pre-Inca pyramid, built around 500 AD and said to have served as a ceremonial and administrative centre for a coastal indigenous civilisation. Visits to the complex are also possible at night when the setting gets even more dramatic. Located just 15 km off the Queensland coast and part of the Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef, you can’t help but be impressed by the stunning landscape and the relaxed atmosphere on this island. Coral gardens, turquoise waters, pristine, white beaches and native wildlife — Great Keppel Island has it all. The island is perfect for swimming, snorkelling and diving. If you are lucky, you can also observe dolphins, whales or birds.

Nestled near the Desert Botanical Garden, the Phoenix Zoo is home to a diverse range of animals from all over the world, with a special focus on the wildlife of the Sonoran Desert. The zoo features expansive exhibits where you can observe native creatures like coyotes, mountain lions, and desert tortoises up close. For a more immersive experience, the zoo offers interactive opportunities, including camel rides, stingray touch tanks, and a petting zoo where kids can brush and feed goats. In addition to its animal encounters, the Phoenix Zoo hosts daily educational programs and seasonal events such as ZooLights, where the park transforms into a winter wonderland of sparkling lights.
