No holiday in Abu Dhabi would be complete without a visit to this fascinating centre. Local female Bedouin artists and artisans, usually wearing a traditional dress, demonstrate age-old crafts, including henna body painting, embroidery and silver thread work in a series of small huts. You should remove your shoes before entering the huts, as is the local custom.

Nowhere else on the island is the scenery more reminiscent of the middle ages than in the tiny village of Olympi, where many of the narrow windy streets aren't lit up at night, which helps create an eerie medieval feel. Make sure to check out the nearby caves as well.

Located next to Porsche's headquarters in Zuffenhausen, the museum showcases around 80 vehicles and 200 smaller exhibits, all displayed within a striking 5,600-square-metre space. The building itself is an architectural highlight—a futuristic structure designed by Viennese firm Delugan Meissl Associated Architects, appearing to hover above the ground on just three supports. Inside, the exhibits are arranged chronologically, offering a comprehensive look at Porsche's evolution from its early days to the present. The museum also features a glass-walled workshop where visitors can observe vehicle restorations in progress.

Båtsmansgränd is a narrow alley located in Gamla Öster, the area above the harbour. Here, you'll find eight quaint, timber-framed boatmen's cottages, constructed in the 1740s. Their simple yet traditional design reflects the era's architectural style. Originally, they served as homes for the boatmen and their families, whom Västervik town was obliged to equip on behalf of the Crown. In the first half of the 20th century, the cottages housed members of the citizens' fire brigade. In the 1970s, these now heritage-listed cottages were converted into a hostel, available for rent in the summer.
