Dr Sun Yat-sen was one of the pioneers at the forefront in the struggle to transform China from a dynastic feudal state to a republic for the people. He continues to be celebrated and the plan of his mausoleum is in the shape of an alarm bell, signifying the “perpetual ringing of the alarm bell to arouse people”. Dr Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum is a classic building of the architectural style used during the early days of the Republic of China.

Dive deep into the emerald waters of Tat Sae waterfalls only 18 km southeast of Luang Prabang. Unlike Kuang Si waterfalls, the spot is less famous among tourists, which makes it less crowded and a favourite with locals. Note that locals bathe fully clothed, sometimes even in jeans. To avoid getting stares and blend in better, women are recommended to bring a sarong and men a shirt to cover up, as going around in a bikini is not culturally accepted. Tat Sae waterfalls offer outdoor activities such as zip-lining and kayaking. The waterfalls are at their best during the rainy season (June to September).

Situated among the ruins of a former woollen mill along the River Dawn, this extensive garden features several interesting botanical specialties, from a lavender field to lily ponds in the North African corner.
