King Faisal Street is one of the main thoroughfares of Amman. On this palm-fringed strip, gold dealers from the Gold Souq weigh bracelets under neon lights, while juice vendors press pomegranates nearby and old men play backgammon at pavement cafés. The street’s charm lies in its contrasts: the 1924 post office (now The Duke’s Diwan) overlooks a row of buzzing local businesses, and the call to prayer from Al Hussein Mosque competes with taxi horns. At night, the air thickens with the scent of sizzling lamb from decades-old shawarma stands, and crowds gather at Habibah Sweets for knafeh so fresh it crackles.

Bodrum harbour is a bustling hub for 'gulets' — traditional boats that whisk visitors away on tours of the stunning coastline. These comfortable vessels feature spacious rear decks and cosy cabins. Whether you prefer a short ride, a day trip or something longer, you'll often find the captain doubling as the cook. If you're after a more exclusive experience, you could rent a sailing boat complete with a crew, or hop on a bathing boat to one of the picture-perfect beaches. And all around the peninsula, you'll stumble upon quaint, shady bays.

Santa Catalina, a small, laid-back town known for having one of the best surf breaks in Central America, is located 300 km northwest of Panama City, about one hour from Santiago. The scenery and natural environment are breathtaking. World-class fishing, snorkeling and diving opportunities are found all along the coastline and around the surrounding islands. Coiba National Park can be seen from Catalina. From 1912 to 2002, Coiba Island was used as a penal colony, and Panama’s worst criminals were sent here. Nowadays the prisoners have gone, but the prison remains, and makes for an interesting visit. Moreover, the recent declaration of Coiba as a UNESCO World Heritage site prohibits any development on the island, so the wildlife here is simply spectacular. The enormous island is home to a plethora of birds, mammals and reptiles. The surrounding marine park comprises 38 other smaller islands including Cebaco and Gobernadora and is the site of the second largest coral reef in the Eastern Pacific. Coiba’s amazing variety of underwater life makes fishing and diving here incredible. Santa Catalina is a great base for exploring the islands and coastline. The town itself is small, with few attractions, but a surprising number of foreigners have moved to Catalina to start tourist-related businesses, creating an eclectic mix of people. Restaurants offer a good variety of food including authentic Tuscan Pizza and Argentinian style meats. Needless to say, the seafood in this area is to die for.

Nuova Gibellina is a one-of-a-kind sight. The small village of Gibellina was destroyed by a strong earthquake in 1968 and reconstructed later, 11 km away from its original location. The new city was designed by the most prominent artists in Italy and it has a peculiar and variegated landscape. Whereas, the ruin of the old village - now called Vecchia Gibellina - has been covered entirety in concrete, whereas preserving the streetscape.
