Located next to the Fitzroy River, the new Rockhampton Museum of Art is a major architectural and cultural attraction in the CBD. Originally established as the Rockhampton Art Gallery in the late 1960s, the museum boasts an impressive collection of twentieth-century Australian paintings. The collection spans from mid-twentieth century works to contemporary art, comprising more than 3,000 objects.

Situated in the vibrant Grottes district, Les Schtroumpfs, also known as the Smurfs buildings, is a fascinating architectural gem. Built between 1982 and 1984 by three visionary architects, this whimsical housing complex draws inspiration from Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí and the iconic smurf houses from the comics. Featuring curved walls, irregular angles, and vibrant pops of colour reminiscent of the beloved blue characters' mushroom homes, the complex aptly earns its nickname, 'The Smurfs’. Housing 750 families, it encompasses amenities such as a kindergarten, dental clinic, and cafés, all set amid trees and playgrounds, creating a unique and playful community space.

There is no better place to familiarise yourself with Kosovar traditional culture than taking a guided tour of the Ottoman buildings containing the Emin Gjiku Ethnographic Museum. Musical instruments, pieces of clothing and accessories, along with other artefacts, are on display in the museum's stylised interior.
