Bergen

Bergen

Bergen is a charming old city with a youthful spirit. As you fly into Bergen, you will see the stunning cliffs rising out of the sea and the fjord surrounded by majestic mountains. In the Middle Ages, Bergen was the largest city in Scandinavia, and it wasn't until the 1830s that Oslo's population overtook that of Bergen. However, Bergen retains its status as an important port city. The dramatic scenery, lively music scene, and pleasant and relaxed atmosphere make Bergen a very popular destination.

The impressive rock formations are colourfully lit up and can be admired from the comfort of a smooth walking path that traverses the cave.

The Palacio de Los Pardo is home to the Goya Museum, dedicated to the writer and professor who bequeathed his private collection of paintings and sculptures to the city. The works exhibited span the 15th to the 20th century. Particularly noteworthy is the room dedicated exclusively to five series of etchings by Goya: Los Caprichos, La Tauromaquia, Los Disparates or Proverbios, Los Desastres de la Guerra and Los Toros de Burdeos.

Famous Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí had a hand in the restoration project early in the 20th century, though he quit the project over a dispute with the contractor. This beautiful architectural wonder offers breathtaking views in every direction and is the perfect starting point for a walking tour through the city.

Loretto Chapel
Santa Fe, New Mexico

Loretto Chapel

Used a backdrop for weddings, the Loretto Chapel is one of Santa Fe's oldest and most dear attractions. Formerly a Roman Catholic church, it now serves as a museum and wedding venue. Perhaps beyond its grand beauty and elegance, Loretto Chapel's continued allure lies in its mysterious spiral staircase. Both the identity of its builder and the stunning physics of its construction - there were no supports holding it as it spirals into the choir loft - remain a mystery. Legend says that St. Joseph himself made it, as the man who did build the staircase disappeared before the nuns were able to pay him, and the wood used was not native to the area. It is a stunning salute to the science of physics and the hearts of believers.
