Even though Georgians are not the biggest fans of their Soviet heritage, this great example of Tbilisi 70s brutalism must not be missed. Built on steep slopes in Nutsubidze street, it is one of the quirkiest constructions you will ever see. The three apartment blocks are connected by a bridge that goes through them. From the sky bridge, you can also see a nice view of the residential parts of Tbilisi. Once you are up and walk through the bridge, turn right and take a walk down the winding streets and admire a Caucasian architectural know-how: semi-legal additions to residential blocks of all shapes, sizes and materials.

Mentioned in ancient sources as early as the 2nd century AD, the archaeological site of Ulpiana contains remnants of a Roman settlement, all clearly marked and accompanied by information boards. It was a relatively important city, whose territory covered an impressive 120 hectares, one that to-date remains largely under the radar.

Even if ancient ruins aren't your cup of tea, a trip to an archaeological site is worth the detour. The journey will take you through the quaint countryside, threading through small towns and villages that might otherwise escape your notice. Just a few kilometres from the holiday resort of Altinkum, in Yenihisar, you'll find Didyma — home to a grand temple dedicated to Apollo. Didyma was more than a religious site; its oracle rivalled the fame of Delphi's. While the original temple was destroyed by the Persians around 400 BC, the existing ruins hail from the Roman times. The remnants of 120 columns stand as testament to the temple's once monumental size.
