Not far from the city centre lies this basilica, which is said to have been built upon the place where St Peter landed on his way from the Aegean Sea to Rome. If you walk in, you can admire medieval paintings and beautiful frescoes, both on the left and the right side of the church, dating back to 1200 and 1300. Around the location, where a small village has arisen, one can go for a walk and look for some local restaurants.

Ushaiqer Heritage Village, located approximately 200 kilometres northwest of Riyadh, offers a journey into the architectural and cultural history of the Najd region. This labyrinthine settlement of ochre-coloured mud-brick houses, some dating back centuries, was once a vital stop for pilgrims. Its narrow, shaded alleys wind between traditional dwellings, many featuring distinctive triangular windows and carved wooden doors. While some buildings have been restored, others stand in a state of arrested decay, creating an atmospheric exploration of a bygone era. The site also includes a small museum displaying local artefacts, providing context to the evocative surroundings.

As featured on Huell Howser’s Road Trip to Stockton in 2007, the Stockton Cambodian Buddhist Temple is home to over 100 vibrant, jewel-encrusted statues that celebrate the life and story of the Cambodian Buddha, including a striking 50-foot-long recumbent Buddha. Visitors are welcome daily during daylight hours, and admission is free, with donations accepted. The temple is also the site of the annual Cambodian New Year Celebration each April.

April through September, watch the Stockton Ports, a Minor League Baseball team of the California League and the Single-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics, at the Stockton (Banner Island) Ballpark. This scenic ballpark sits on Downtown Stockton’s waterfront, making baseball season a unique and lively time in Stockton. Check out the grassy “Home Run Hill” area inside the ballpark — it’s a great place to bring a blanket and watch the game.
