Located on an island at the north end of Hoan Kiem Lake, this peaceful temple site pays homage to scholars and war heroes. Its most notable feature is the preserved turtle carcass, intricately tied to the lake's mythology. If you missed the ski season you can make up for it here even on the hottest of summer days. This sports centre overlooking Lake Malta boasts a 150 metre artificial ski slope, a summer sledge run, golf lessons, as well as bicycle and rollerblade hire.

One thing is very clear on the Grossglockner High Alpine Road: "the journey is the reward". It is not about arriving at the top, it's about experiencing the pass road with all its views, places for a stop, display boards and information points. An extensive labyrinth of underground passageways and cellar vaults has existed in the bedrock of castle hill for centuries - the Historic Rock-Cut Cellars. As early as 1380 red beer was stored in the subterranean cellars, sometimes comprising four levels, that had been cut into the Burgsandstein (local Nuremberg sandstone).
