Almost entirely surrounded by the warm waters of the Adriatic, Zadar may not be large, but it will charm you with its character. Nestled in the corner of rural south-west France stands Pau, the capital of the Béarn province, a bastion of history and culture. Located in the North Rhine-Westphalia region of the country, modern Dortmund is vibrant and cultural, known for its good shopping, beer and football. But there is another, altogether gentler, side to this former industrial powerhouse. Dortmund has great theatres and cultural centres, a range of fascinating museums and, with half the city given over to parks and gardens, enough green areas to sooth the senses.

Think big in Washington–as soon as you arrive in D.C., you’ll be knocked over by the scale of the place. America's capital wants you to know where you are, and the city goes all out to impress in terms of grandeur and size. Drama and scandal bubble under the surface, while the streets are abuzz with hip and happening events, museums, restaurants, and clubs around every corner. The principles of Equality, Justice, Life, and Liberty are still upheld, but D.C. is, above all, a trendy and international town.
