Moke Lake, despite its proximity to Queenstown, provides a peaceful sanctuary away from the city buzz, along with an abundance of outdoor activities. You can amble along the scenic track encircling the lake, take a tranquil horseback ride, cast your fishing line, enjoy a paddle in a kayak, or whizz around on your cycle. It truly is a place that offers a taste of tranquillity alongside a wealth of adventurous pursuits. The Moke Lake Loop Track is a popular short, undulating walk and cycle track. It's 6.5 kilometres (4 miles) long and most hikers need about two hours to complete it at a leisurely pace.

On the façade of this government palace (Palazzo del Governo), you can see a collection of statues by Guido Costanzo, from Ortona. The four large sculptures symbolise the Mines, Agriculture, the Sea and the River, the four foundation pillars of Pescara. In the Hall of the Provincial Council, you can also admire the large bronze bust of poet Gabriele D'Annunzio.

Turn left after Valletta's City Gate rather than heading straight in, climb the stairs, and you'll find yourself on top of St John's and St Michael's Bastions with views stretching over Floriana, Msida, Sliema, and Manoel Island. Local legend has it the gardens were built in just four hours — a nod, apparently, to Maltese industriousness. The garden takes its name from the Marquis of Hastings, a governor of Malta who died in 1826 and is buried here. Keep an eye out for the khachkar, an Armenian stone cross unveiled in 2009 to commemorate the Armenians who found refuge in Malta in 1375 and 1915. A fine spot to rest your feet before pressing on into the city.

Overlooking the iconic Martiri Olivetta Square, Portofino's Art Gallery offers ever changing exhibitions in a quest to find emerging talents. The gallery also displays artworks of popular Italian sculptors and painters while also featuring contemporary art masterpieces.
