This original 15th century Gothic mansion is an outstanding example of bourgeois grandeur in the Old Town, in later years richly decorated with stuccos. The house is named for Sebastian Helbling, who operated a small Café in there in 1833. The historic structure was completely refurbished in the years 1979 and 1980.

Around 90 minutes from the hustle and bustle of Shenzhen, Dapeng Fortress stands as a time capsule from the Ming Dynasty. This 600-year-old walled military village was built to protect the region from pirates, and much of its original structure remains intact. Walking through the fortress, you’ll encounter ancient fortifications, narrow alleys, and sturdy watchtowers. In 2007, Dapeng Fortress was recognised as part of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage for its cultural significance. Today, it’s a place where you can step back into history, explore the centuries-old architecture, and imagine life as it was when pirates roamed the waters just off the coast.

In the olden days, Halmstad had four town gates and today only the North Gate remains. Once this narrow passage was a through route to one of our largest main roads. The Norre Port was completed in 1601 under the Danish king Christian IV. These days the gate leads you to the cosy Norre katts park.

About 80 km north of Bangkok, Ayutthaya was once the capital of Siam. Today, the Historical Park is full of temple ruins, giant Buddha statues, and prang (reliquary towers). Wat Mahathat is famous for the Buddha head caught in tree roots, and Wat Phra Si Sanphet was the royal temple of the old city. Most travellers do a day trip from Bangkok by train, bus, or river cruise, though staying overnight gives you a quieter look at the ruins.
