Lindos might be small, but it's brimming with character. A must-visit is the local Acropolis — not just a standout in Lindos but one of the island's most iconic archaeological gems. Home to monumental 4th-century gates and ancient reliefs dating back to 280 B.C., it's a step back in time. Down the hill, you'll find the 14th-century Castle of the Knights of St John. And don't miss the frescoes in the Virgin Mary of Lindos Church, dating from the 15th century.

Seven generations saw the Tan Ky house remaining in the excellent condition it welcomes visitors in today, as it continues to stand as an excellent example of the confluence of cultural influences that define Hoi An. This 18th-century merchant home combines elements of Chinese and Japanese design and even features elements of European influence (such as the grape leaves carved into the courtyard balcony). The house comes furnished with original period pieces and contains a small gift shop; an open courtyard at its centre brings in light and air, creating an organic link to nature and preventing the structure from flooding (although this isn't a remedy in extremely high water).

A place of rare natural beauty a mere 15km away from Cluj-Napoca, the Turda Gorge is excellent hiking grounds for explorers of any fitness level. Persevere all the way to the top (which shouldn't take more than an hour) and enjoy some incredible, sweeping views of the green surroundings. Sundays here tend to be the busiest.
