The peaceful journey is occasionally punctuated with rapids. There are plenty of things to see and do along the way. Some sections are ideal for families with children. You can choose to paddle for a few hours or a few days. One example is the trip from Gunnarödsbron/Stockamöllan to Rögnaröd/Djupadal, which takes around four hours. You can hire canoes and kayaks from various locations, and most hire companies also offer overnight accommodation. Stay in a converted stable or a 17th century cottage. Or why not get a whole bunch of friends together and hire a 20- or 12-man tent. If you want to spend the night in the great outdoors, there are places with shelters, toilets and firewood. For a particularly Swedish summer experience, combine a canoeing trip with hiring a sauna trailer. Take a hot sauna, followed by a dip in the river.

Lake McKenzie on Fraser Island is probably the most well-known freshwater lake in Australia. Located 100 metres above the sea level, it is classified as a 'perched lake', which means that all of the crystal-clear water comes from the rain. High levels of acidity in the lake and the fact that all nutrients have been washed out of the shimmering white silica sand make the water unsuitable for nearly all forms of plant and fish life. It is likely the purest water you'll ever dip your toes in. The Aboriginal name for the lake is Boorangoora, which means 'waters of wisdom'. It was and still is known as a place for decision-making.

Hong Kong's Dragon's Back Trail is a 2-3 hour hiking trail that cuts through stunning landscapes and offers views over the southern part of Hong Kong, with opportunities for a swim or surf at Big Wave Bay.
