This is an international cultural centre designed by the Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer. Centro Niemeyer is his first work in Spain and it is well visited by relevant personalities of the cultural world such as Nobel prize-winner Woyle Soyinka and famous actors like Kevin Spacey and Brad Pitt. Woody Allen has also included bits of it in his first film in Spain, Vicky Cristina Barcelona from 2008.

Åland has a shoreline numbering an incredible 17,000 km. Beaches lie in all directions. The mildness of the maritime climate and the contrast between calm bays and strong winds creating powerful waves outside the islands mean ideal kite surfing conditions. According to the local kite surfing professional, Patrik Larsson, Åland boasts at least 150 days of good surfing conditions annually. In the summer it's best done on the waves, and in winter in open water further away from the shores. Kite surfing is popular on Åland. At Filmbyn (Film Village), you can experience scenes from classical children’s films, e.g. Emil in Lönneberga, the Bullerby Children, and Pippi Longstocking. Step into the world of film via a magical exhibition, created in the spirit of Astrid Lindgren. You’ll see classical film clips, original props, and sing along with movie music. While you’re there, you might like to visit its café, shop and one or other of the 12 filming locations nearby, such as Katthult and Bullerby.

In Gullringen, 15 minutes north of Vimmerby, you'll find the municipality's swimming hall with its 25m pool and a smaller children's pool. There's also a gym, sauna, massage chair, solarium, and cafeteria. Alongside the swimming hall, there are two tennis courts for hire.
