As visitors will quickly discover, cycling is big on Sylt and is, perhaps, the most fun way of getting around. Flat and uncongested, the island is perfect for cycling. Sylt has also miles of cycling paths weaving through pine forests. Bikes can be hired throughout the island. The most convenient place to hire a bike is at Westerland station.

Surrounded by water on three sides, Smyrna Dunes Park offers stunning views of the Indian River, Ponce Inlet, and the Atlantic Ocean. Arrive by land or sea to explore its fishing spots, swimming areas, and scenic trails. Keep an eye out for wildlife—birds, reptiles, marine life, and native vegetation thrive here in their natural habitats.

The cliffs are among the most beautiful forms of scenery on Sylt. These relics of the Ice Age, rising up to 20 metres, can be found in Morsum (Colourful Cliffs), Kampen (Red Cliffs), Wenningstedt (White Cliffs) and Keitum (Green Cliffs).

The “Grand House” of El Castell de Guadalest or “Casa Orduña” was built after the great earthquake of 1644, which devastated the region and demolished the buttress of the castle. It was built by the Orduñas, a family of Basque lineage. They came to the kingdom of Valencia with the Infante Fortuna de Navarra; they later went into the service of the Cardonas, admirals of Aragón. D. Sancho de Cardona received the title of Marques of Guadalest in 1543. As the family enjoyed the complete confidence of the marqueses, they were sent to Guadalest and served as guardians of the fortress and governors of the estate for almost three hundred years.
