People from all over the world dream of catching waves on the shores of Hawaii, and a trip to the islands would not be complete without this adventure. Once upon a time, surfing was a sport reserved for royalty, but today, thankfully just about anybody can take lessons and, thus, experience the thrill of the ocean up close — try out Hans Hedemann Surf School.

At 17 acres and over 150 varieties of cacti, Thiemann is the biggest cactus farm in the whole of Africa. The farm was founded by a German agricultural engineer who wanted to expand beyond growing cacti in grow house conditions and thus came to Morocco in the 60s. Today, you can admire his life's work of lined-up rows of cacti, in what amounts to a massive pool of different types and shapes.

The Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius, completed in 1907, honours the 9th-century Byzantine brothers who evangelised the Slavs and are credited with creating the Cyrillic alphabet. Designed by Italian architect Ricardo Toscani, this Orthodox cathedral features a three-nave basilica with marble columns and a striking stained-glass depiction of the saints. Known for its intricate iconostasis and frescoes by renowned Bulgarian artists, the church underwent foundation repairs in 2016 and remains a significant cultural and spiritual landmark.

A wall-tattoo on Herrengasse street? Sure! On the façade of the Herzoghof building in the centre of Graz, Greek and Roman Gods engage in a rendez-vous. The building was first painted as early as 1600. The Baroque painter Johann Mayer applied the ‘divine’ frescos in 1742, since which time it has been known as the ‘painted house’. If you take a moment to immerse yourself in the images, you enjoy an intense sense of submersion right there in the middle of the urban hustle and bustle.
