A UNESCO World Heritage site, the Old Town charms with its colourful townhouses and the exceptional atmosphere of its narrow streets. When in the Old Town Market Square, you'll meet a mermaid — the official symbol of the city. Don’t forget to see the Barbican, stop by the bell on Kanonia Street, and walk along the old city walls. You should also visit the Royal Castle. Apart from the royal apartments, the old seat of Polish rulers also houses an art collection with paintings by Rembrandt and Bernardo Bellotto, also known as Canaletto. This majestic watchtower was built in 1550 to serve the Knights of Malta and is considered to be the symbol of Lamezia Terme. There are several tower ruins in the area but this is one of the most impressive and well-preserved.

Solliden is the summer residence of the Swedish royal family, which they visit several times a year. Commissioned by Queen Victoria, on the advice of her doctor Axel Munthe, and with Mediterranean influences, the palace was completed in 1906. Munthe was of the opinion that Öland’s abundant sunshine and oxygen-rich air would improve her health, and to this day the royals are happy to enjoy Öland’s sun! Solliden Palace is open to visitors throughout the summer months. Visitors have free access to most of the parks. Café, shop and a pavilion with exhibitions.
