From May to July, magnificent humpback whales pass Cape Byron on their journey to breeding grounds further north. From September to November, they come past Byron Bay again when they migrate south to the Antarctic with their young calves. Spot them swimming and playing from a coastal lookout or join a whale-watching cruise.

The event is a fantastic opportunity for visitors from abroad and from Panama to truly appreciate the agricultural importance of Chiriqui. Last year, over 35,000 flowers were displayed at the fair, including orchids from Australia, Japan, the United States, Costa Rica and, of course, Panama. While flowers are the main attraction at the fair, local agricultural produce is also showcased, including potatoes, strawberries, cabbage, and lettuce. The most important of all the produce is the coffee, which is “cupped” or tasted here by local experts. Without a doubt, the Boquete Flower Festival is one of Panama’s most popular rural events, receiving around 100,000 visitors during its ten days, and with the income generated from the fair hovering around the $2 million mark, it is extremely important to the area from an economical point of view.

The seaside promenade extends for more than 4 kilometres, joining the area of Pernera with Fig Tree Bay, as well as Agios Nicolaos Harbor with Louma Beach. It allows the visitor further to explore the area and at the same time come across a wealth of attractive beaches. This lengthy promenade is perfect for a sunset stroll or jogging while enjoying stunning views across the Mediterranean. All along the coastal promenade, there are platforms that extend from the main path towards the sea. Some of these resting points look as if they hang over the sea. These stops are also marked by benches and people make frequent stops to rest, enjoy the view, the sunset or sunrise or read a book.

Sian Ka’an, meaning ‘where the sky is born’ or ‘gift from heaven’ in the Mayan language, is a remarkable destination renowned for its diverse cultural and biological preservation. Declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, this pristine area is home to over 500 species of birds and the historic Muyil archaeological site, making it a haven for nature and history enthusiasts alike. Visitors can explore Sian Ka’an through Community Tours Sian Ka’an, a non-profit Maya co-op program offering a variety of immersive experiences. From kayaking through serene waters to visiting a local Maya community and learning the traditional art of chewing gum making.
