Built in the early 14th century in Norman Gothic style, Palazzo Chiaramonte Steri, one of the symbols of Palermo, bears witness to a multifaceted history as both a tribunal and prison under the Inquisition from 1600 to 1782. Today, it serves as the headquarters of the University of Palermo, offering visitors a glimpse into history through its marvellous lecture halls adorned with intricate 14th-century wooden ceilings. The Inquisition Museum within its walls unveils the poignant narratives of prisoners through haunting graffiti and artworks, etching their stories onto the very cells that once confined them.

This Hindu temple was the first of its kind in Canada. Craftsmen in India hand-carved limestone and marble and shipped parts of the temple to Toronto, where volunteering artisans from India assembled the parts and built the temple, all while living on site for 2 years. What came out is a stunning piece of Hindu temple architecture.

Humans have inhabited the ridge over the confluence of the Sava and Danube for over two millennia. The core of today’s capital city is the Belgrade Fortress and the Kalemegdan Park. They form a unique spatial entity with clearly visible remains of the Fortress divided into Upper and Lower Town, with two distinct styles. Elements of mediaeval architecture combine with dominant baroque solutions, typical for the 18th century. The Kalemegdan Park, split in two as the Great and Little Parks, developed in the area that once was the town field. The fortress and the park together represent a cultural monument of exceptional importance, the area where various sport, cultural and arts events take place.

Cross this bridge on foot or by bike and take in the views of the city as you pass. The view of the bridge itself from below also makes for a nice photograph. The bridge has been distinguished by several architecture and engineering awards, and commemorates the old aboriginal trading route once in existence here via themed carvings.
