The main square of Timisoara’s Old Town is the most picturesque and a focal point for the whole city. Named "Union Square" after the two cathedrals that face one another across it, this is the perfect place to relax in a café and engage in some people watching.

Not far from the city centre lies this basilica, which is said to have been built upon the place where St Peter landed on his way from the Aegean Sea to Rome. If you walk in, you can admire medieval paintings and beautiful frescoes, both on the left and the right side of the church, dating back to 1200 and 1300. Around the location, where a small village has arisen, one can go for a walk and look for some local restaurants.

Once the home of Houston philanthropist Ima Hogg, Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens is now a museum showcasing an incredible collection of early American decorative arts. The 28-room mansion features furniture, paintings, and antiques from 1620 to 1870. Beyond the museum, the beautifully manicured gardens and surrounding woodlands offer a peaceful escape, perfect for a quiet stroll.

Nakano provides a distinct experience for visitors interested in Tokyo’s specialist subcultures. Less central than Akihabara, this neighbourhood draws a more knowing crowd of enthusiasts. The district serves as a central point for otaku culture, a Japanese term for people with dedicated, often deep interests in areas like anime, manga and video games. Its primary attraction is Nakano Broadway, a multi-level mall from the 1960s that houses a dense collection of specialist shops, including the flagship Mandarake complex, selling vintage toys, comics and collectables. Access to the mall is through the Nakano Sun Mall, a covered shotengai (shopping arcade) filled with everyday shops and eateries. In recent years, Nakano Broadway has also developed a parallel reputation for its concentration of dealers in high-end vintage watches.
