In the mid-17th century, this impressive building was built by a noble Portuguese family. Nowadays, it houses the original collection of decorative art by César Filipe Gomes. There is Portuguese furniture dating back to the 17th century, Oriental and European porcelain items, and a beautiful chapel in the garden.

One of the most colourful streets of Funchal, Santa Maria street is a loving art project of local artists. Over 200 doors are plastered with eye-popping paintings of all kinds. Walk down this narrow cobbled street and perhaps take a break in one of the many rustic restaurants and cafes.

While its original construction dates back to 1546, the building has undergone significant transformations throughout the centuries. Notably, in 1860, architect Helgo Zettervall revamped the façade in the Dutch Renaissance style, lending the Town Hall its distinctive appearance. Located in another section of the expansive square is Kockska Huset, an exceptionally well-preserved sixteenth-century structure built from red brick and adorned with intricately decorated stepped gables. Today, this building houses one of Malmö's most renowned restaurants, Årstiderna (The Seasons), nestled within its basement vaults. Just behind the Town Hall, the tip of St Petrikyrkan (St Peter's Church) peeks into view. As Malmö's oldest standing edifice, this architectural marvel dates back to the early 14th century and showcases the Baltic brick Gothic style. In the early 1900s, significant efforts were made to develop and restore the medieval paintings adorning the church's vaults, adding to its historical and artistic significance.
