Dolmabahçe Palace is a white stone behemoth located in the Beşiktaş district and overlooks the Bosphorus. It used to serve as the main administrative centre of the Ottoman Empire from 1856 to 1887 and from 1909 to 1922. Some visitors compare it with Versailles and Hermitage.

Maintained by the Sandusky Library, the Follett House Museum, itself listed on the National Register of Historical Landmarks, features an array of artifacts and exhibits that chronicle the history of Sandusky from its very beginnings. Included is the prison camp memorial.
